I love watching all the latest science fiction movies, and Arrival was one of my favorite films of the year. The premise is simple – aliens land on earth and we try to figure out why they’ve come and what we want. Humanity inevitably reacts as it always does, choosing aggression against things it doesn’t understand. But instead of this being another Independence Day action movie, Arrival is a sophisticated mystery that unravels with a poignant twist on the nature of our reality. The film explores themes of connection, communication, and the uncertainties of space and time. It’s a slow burn that stayed with me after I left the theatre.
